Launched in 2010, and a classic in the Givenchy bag collection, the Givenchy Antigona takes its name from the Greek mythological name of “Antigone”. It represents a strong, feminine figure whose name means unbending, which is quite apt given that the bag was designed with a feminine yet sturdy feel to it. It is a robust yet classy looking bag that will take you through the years, which explains why the bag is still so popular over ten years after its debut.
Enjoying a trapezoid shape, the Givenchy Antigona bag also features a triangular patch containing the Givenchy logo in the centre. It comes with double handles, an oversized zipper with silver-finish metal details and a removable and adjustable shoulder strap.
It is good to note that the interior of the Antigona bag offers two flat pockets as well as a zippered one, perfect for the organsiation of items. It is made of durable cotton canvas which makes it easier to clean.
Givenchy Antigona Sizes and Dimensions
The Givenchy Antigona comes in three sizes – mini, small and medium.
Size | Dimensions |

Givenchy Antigona Small | 28 cm x 15 cm x 25 cm |
Givenchy Antigona Medium | 40 cm x 28 cm x 19 cm |
The Givenchy Mini, whilst sounding small, is larger than you would anticipate and, with the interior zippered compartment and a card pocket, it allows for the carrying of all essential items.
The slightly larger Givenchy Small is a classic, shopping/day bag which could also comfortably accompany you on a night out.
And finally, the Givenchy Medium is relatively comfy to carry and can see you through a night away, but can also get pretty heavy.
Antigona Bag Colours and Materials
The Antigona collection offers a range of classic colours, from red, grey, green, and black to name but a few.
The bag is also available in a range of different materials, the popular two being the sugar grained leather goatskin and the smooth calf-skin leather. It also comes in rubberised canvas and nubuck suede, not to mention the more luxurious options of crocodile, ostrich, python and anaconda.
The choice of materials and colours is quite extensive, which means that its easy to find a combination that would be perfect for any taste and season.
Prices for the Givenchy Antigona collection range from €1,290 – €3,190 / $1,500 – $3,780 depending on the size and material chosen.
Variants of the Antigona Classic
On the 10th anniversary of the Antigona debut, Givenchy launched the Antigona soft version. This bag continues to offer both the boldness of its classic features like the zippers, sturdy handles and boxy feel but collides quite cleverly with the feminine and masculine feel. With this soft range, you can still have the original shape, but with softer lines.
For the Spring Summer 2021 collection, Givenchy released yet another reinterpretation of their iconic classic. Current Creative Director, Matthew M.Williams, chose to blend his love of industrial hardware with classic Givenchy elements. This resulted in new versions of the Antigona featuring padlocks, double zip closures and shiny textured leather.
One thing remains common throughout all versions of the Antigona bag released in the last decade – a classy but functional style that will no doubt continue for decades to come.
