The Gucci Rajah Tote is a large yet extremely sleek statement bag which was released as part of Gucci’s Fall / Winter 2018 collection, along with the Rajah shoulder bag.
The term Rajah means king or prince in Sanskrit, a language of ancient India, and the Rajah tote definitely has a majestic feel to it. This is mainly due the bag’s main feature – a metal roaring tiger head which sits on the top-centre of the bag. This striking motif was inspired by a brooch created in the 1940s by fashion and jewellery designer, Hattie Carnegie.
The original Hattie Carnegie tiger head brooch created in the 1940s.
Even though it is small in size, especially when compared to the size of the fairly large tote, the tiger head stands out due to the fact that it sits on one of Gucci’s older motifs, the three Gucci stripes (also known as the Web stripes). These run along the centre of the tote, all the way from back to front.

The Rajah tote features leather trim across all borders of the bag, with the top trim having two metal holes through which double chain straps, also with leather detail, are passed. The double straps and the leather cushioning make the bag comfortable to carry on the shoulder, even when full.
With the Rajah tote, Gucci have managed to create a statement bag which is fairly large, yet extremely sleek. This is due to the depth of the bag which only measures between 2.5 and 3 inches, depending on the size / version of the bag.
This makes the Rajah tote a perfect choice if you are looking to carry a number of items on a day-to-day basis, but are not a fan of bulky looking bags. It is also the perfect bag to carry books, a tablet or a laptop in. That being said, the bag may be considered too large for those who have a petite frame.
Another good thing about this tote is the fact that it can be closed with a magnetic snap closure, making its contents more secure. It also comes with a detachable pouch with a zippered closure where more valuable belongings can be stored.
