Le Chiquito

Spanish for the word ‘tiny’, the Jacquemus Le Chiquito bag definitely lives up to its name by basically being the world’s smallest handbag. Created by 29 year old French fashion designer, Simon Porte Jacquemus, the Le Chiquito micro-bag is one of the latest must-have items for any luxury brand lover who also wants to be on-trend this season.

Jacquemus Le Chiquito Dimensions

First off, let’s start by getting the obvious out of the way – the Jacquemus Le Chiquito is definitely not a bag one would acquire for practicality reasons and is merely worn as an accessory. With dimensions of 9 cm x 12 cm x 6 cm, the Le Chiquito is big enough to carry some cash / cards, a small set of keys and one other small item such as a lip product or gum.

In my opinion, the biggest downside of this bag is the fact that it is not big enough to carry most phones. With the iPhone 11 models measuring at 15 cm x 7.5 cm x 0.8 cm, most carriers of the Le Chiquito would have to find an alternative space to store their phone.

When it comes to the look and feel of the bag, the Jacquemus Le Chiquito bag is made from calfskin leather, has a top handle shape and comes with a removable and adjustable strap. Since its initial appearance in 2018, it has been released in a wide range of colours, from standard blacks and whites to popping hues such as red, blue, yellow, orange and purple.

Thanks to the adjustable strap which has a minimum drop of 95 cm and a maximum drop of 113 cm, there are many ways to wear the Jacquemus Le Chiquito bag. It can be worn as a shoulder bag, across the body, held from the top handle or around the waist as a very trendy belt bag.

Jacquemus Le Chiquito Price

The Le Chiquito micro bag retails for around €400 / £360 / $440. In my opinion, the reasonability of the price point really depends on why you want to acquire this bag. On one hand, €400 for a bag which isn’t even big enough to carry your phone is a complete waste of money. On the other hand, it is quite clear that the Le Chiquito is more of a fashion accessory rather than a bag. More specifically, it is a luxury designer accessory which has appeared, and most probably will keep appearing on the runway for seasons to come.

Jacquemus Le Petit Chiquito

If you thought the Le Chiquito bag was small, Jacquemus have also gone and released an even smaller version of the Le Chiquito, known as the Le Petit Chiquito. There are two ways in which I can describe this bag:

  1. It is a bag suitable for a traditional barbie doll.
  2. It is a long necklace in the shape of a handbag.

The Le Petit Chiquito has the same shape as the original, larger version and measures at 8.5 cm x 5 cm x 2.5 cm. It features a gold letter J at the bottom right hand corner (I guess fitting the full ‘Jacquemus’ was a bit of a challenge), and retails for about €235 / £210 / $260. The strap on this one is not removable nor adjustable, and is 110 cm long.

Le Chiquito Long

As part of their Spring / Summer 2020 collection, Jacquemus released a longer version of the bag which is aptly named Le Chiquito Long. This re-interpretation of the original Le Chiquito bag has the same look and feel to it but features a more rectangular shape. Measuring at 22 cm x 10.5 cm x 5.5cm, carriers of this model will actually be able to use it store their phones like a good old handbag is meant to do. The price of the Le Chiquito Long is €515 / £470 / $630
