If you’re a lover of luxury bags, then you are definitely familiar with the YSL LouLou. Released in early 2017 by Anthony Vaccarello, the LouLou was named so as a tribute to the late Loulou de la Falaise, who was a muse and close collaborator of Yves Saint Laurent for many years. In December 2024, Saint Laurent gave the LouLou its first major redesign since launch, detailed below.
YSL LouLou Design
When the LouLou first launched in 2017, it was instantly recognizable by its padded, puffer-style silhouette and Y-shaped quilting, a look that came to define an entire era of Saint Laurent’s bags and is still regularly compared to the Chanel Jumbo Flap as a less expensive alternative.
In December 2024, Saint Laurent gave the LouLou a full redesign: a sleeker, more structured silhouette with chevron-quilted topstitching, dropping the puffy volume entirely. The redesign also added a removable leather pouch and pocket mirror, accessories the original LouLou didn’t have. Saint Laurent no longer sells it original version, so you’ll only find it on the resale market or at select retailers who have leftover stock.
The chain strap is moveable, so the bag can be worn on the shoulder or crossbody, and the metal interlocking YSL initials remain front and center on the flap closure, closed with a magnetic snap.
YSL LouLou Practicality and Functionality
The LouLou is spacious for its size, and a tablet can fit comfortably in the Medium and Large. Items stored inside are kept safe with a magnetic snap closure, a common fastening method for Saint Laurent bags, such as the YSL Niki and the YSL Sunset.
The cotton-lined interior consists of two compartments divided by a middle pocket, bound in leather and closed with a zip. Both compartments are spacious, with the front slightly bigger than the back, which also has a zippered slot pocket running the full length of the bag.
The only flaw in the LouLou’s compartmentalisation is that there’s no pocket on the exterior of the bag.
YSL LouLou Sizes and Dimensions
The LouLou now comes in four sizes: Small, Medium, Large, and a new Mini, which replaced the old Toy as the smallest size in the range. Dimensions changed with the December 2024 redesign as well:
| Size | Old Dimensions | New Dimensions |
| Mini (replaces Toy) | 20 x 14 x 7 cm | 20 x 12 x 5 cm |
| Small | 25 x 17 x 9 cm | 24 x 14 x 6 cm |
| Medium | 32 x 22 x 11 cm | 29 x 17 x 8 cm |
| Large | 38 x 27 x 14 cm | 32 x 22 x 10 cm |
YSL LouLou Colours and Materials
The redesigned LouLou is currently offered in seven colourways: Black, Red, Urban Grey, Pink, Bordeaux, White, and Natural Tan, all in matelassé lambskin. Expect the lineup to keep rotating with the seasons: the bag launched in December 2024 with a different set (Natural Tan, Noir, plus seasonal shades Celosia, Dark Strong Moss, and Hortensia), most of which have already cycled out.
YSL LouLou Price
The LouLou now retails between $2,250 and $3,400 depending on size, all in the redesigned matelassé lambskin (Mini is also offered in suede).
When Saint Laurent redesigned the LouLou in December 2024, the price actually dropped. The Medium launched at $2,900, about 9% below the outgoing design’s final price of $3,200, and has since crept back up to $3,100, still below where the old design left off.
| Size | Price |
| Mini (Lambskin) | $2,250 / £1,635 / €1,800 |
| Mini (Suede) | $2,450 / £1,730 / €1,900 |
| Small | $2,750 / £2,090 / €2,300 |
| Medium | $3,100 / £2,350 / €2,650 |
| Large | $3,400 / £2,615 / €2,950 |
YSL LouLou Price History
The original LouLou rose in price from $2,150 in May 2019 to $3,200 by November 2022, a 49% increase in just three years. The redesigned LouLou launched at a reset price of $2,900 though it has already climbed to its current $3,100. 7% increase since its December 2024 relaunch.

Other YSL LouLou Styles
Beyond the core LouLou, Saint Laurent sells a few related styles under the same collection, though naming has shifted over the years. We’ve covered the Lou Camera Bag in full, so here’s a quick look at the rest, with deeper reviews to come.
YSL LouLou Toy Puffer
Formerly known simply as the Puffer, the Toy Puffer is a plush, padded take on the LouLou shape. It’s priced at $2,490 in lambskin and $2,700 in suede.
YSL LouLou Toy Crossbody
Formerly the LouLou Toy Bag, the Toy Crossbody is the smallest crossbody-friendly option in the family, priced at $2,100 in lambskin and $2,500 in suede.
YSL LouLou Micro Bag
The newest and smallest addition to the collection, priced at $1,050.
The original LouLou Backpack no longer appears in Saint Laurent’s current lineup; these smaller styles above appear to have replaced it.
Final Thoughts
The LouLou has quietly become one of Saint Laurent’s most recognizable bags twice over: first as the puffy, Y-quilted icon of the late 2010s, and now as a sleeker, more structured take for 2025 and beyond.
Both versions are spacious, versatile, and easy to dress up or down. The real question is which silhouette you’re drawn to. So, which version do you prefer: the original puffy LouLou, or the newer, sleeker redesign? Let us know in the comments.
