Under the creative direction of Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior have launched a new bag as part of their Fall 2020 collection – the Bobby bag.
A flap bag with a timeless yet modern look, the Dior Bobby bag has been named so as a tribute to Christian Dior’s dog, who was apparently the inspiration behind many of the French creator’s designs.
At first glance, the Bobby bag instantly reminds me of the Gucci 1955 Horsebit bag. It has a rounded box shape and a CD magnetic clasp buckle on the front with gold metal hardware finish. It is available in the classic Dior oblique canvas and in calfskin leather. Both versions have a ’30 Montaigne’ signature embossed on the back, which is the address of Dior’s flagship store in Paris.
The Dior Bobby has a removable and adjustable shoulder strap, allowing the bag to be carried on the shoulder, crossbody and by hand. When it comes to storage, the bag has one main compartment inside with a flat pocket at the back and a back pocket on the outside.
The Dior Bobby bag is available in three sizes – small, medium and large. These measure at 18 x 14 x 5 cm, 22 x 17 x 6 cm and 27 x 8 x 19.5 cm respectively. The large version, whether it comes in canvas or leather, has a Dior Oblique embroidered strap. On the other hand, the small and medium versions come with a thinner leather shoulder strap irrespective of whether they are the calfksin or canvas version.
