First introduced for Prada’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, the Buckle bag takes the familiar shape of a structured leather tote and adds an interchangeable belt around its upper edge.
It has since developed into an extensive collection, with several sizes and a choice of leather, suede and exotic finishes. Prada has also revisited the design for Fall/Winter 2026 and has introduced a smaller version alongside new bags such as the Prada Carry.
Design
The defining feature of the Prada Buckle bag is the belt that runs around the upper edge of its silhouette. It breaks up the bag’s otherwise clean body and can be tightened, left loose, removed or exchanged for another belt to alter its appearance.
It is a contrast that feels very Prada: a polished, structured shape interrupted by an unexpected detail. Some versions have one wide belt, with the buckle appearing in the middle, while others use two slimmer belts that fasten at either side, creating a busier, slightly more casual look.

Despite the belt, the Buckle is an understated bag by Prada standards. Instead of the house’s familiar enamel triangle, the front is finished with Prada Milano lettering embossed in 22-karat gold leaf.
The bag has two leather top handles, each finished with a small buckle that echoes the larger belt detail around the bag. It also comes with a detachable, adjustable shoulder strap, giving it more flexibility than its tote-like shape initially suggests. However, the larger sizes may feel rather bulky when worn crossbody.
Practicality and Functionality
The Prada Buckle bag offers a useful interior, but its lack of a secure closure will not suit everyone.
Prada describes the belt as both functional and customisable, although it should not be mistaken for a conventional bag closure. The product specifications call it a decorative belt, and there is no top zip listed. It can draw the sides of the bag in, but it will not protect the contents as securely as a zipped compartment or full flap.
Inside, the bags are lined in nappa leather. Most versions include a central pocket or compartment that separates the interior and makes it easier to organise smaller belongings.
Capacity varies significantly across the collection. The newest 22 cm small bag is suited to essentials such as a phone, card holder, keys and a few cosmetics. The larger Buckle bags have much more generous proportions and are better candidates for work or everyday use.
One disadvantage is likely to be weight. Prada does not publish the weight of each model, but the combination of a calfskin exterior, nappa leather interior, multiple handles, a shoulder strap and metal belt hardware means these are unlikely to be especially lightweight bags.
Prada Buckle Bag Sizes and Dimensions
Prada’s naming is more confusing than it needs to be. There are several bags described as “small”, despite having substantially different dimensions. The 32 cm leather bag is called small, for example, while the suede version with the same dimensions is called medium.
For that reason, it is better to compare the actual measurements rather than relying on the size name.
| Prada Buckle style | Dimensions | Shoulder strap drop |
| Small bag with belt, Fall/Winter 2026 | 15 × 22 × 11 cm | 50–55 cm |
| Small handbag with double belt | 18 × 28 × 10.5 cm | 50–55 cm |
| Small leather handbag with belt | 23 × 32 × 11 cm | 50–55 cm |
| Medium suede bag with belt | 23 × 32 × 11 cm | 50–55 cm |
| Medium handbag with double belt | 25 × 35 × 14 cm | 50–55 cm |
| Large handbag with belt | 27.5 × 37.5 × 14 cm | 50–55 cm |
All versions include a detachable, adjustable leather shoulder strap. Prada does not currently provide the top-handle drop measurements.
The new 22 cm model is the most compact and works best as a day-to-evening bag. The 28 cm version provides a little more room without becoming oversized, while the 32 cm and larger styles make more sense for everyday use.
Colourways and Materials
The Prada Buckle collection is primarily made from calfskin, offered in both smooth leather and suede finishes. The bags are lined with nappa leather and include metal hardware.
The smooth calfskin versions are currently available in several colours, depending on the size and belt configuration:
- Black
- Caramel
- Clay Grey
- White and Black
- Travertine Stone
- Pumice Stone
- Briarwood
A Cocoa Brown suede version is also available. Its softer, textured finish gives the structured design a more relaxed appearance, although suede requires additional care around rain, marks and colour transfer.
At the time of writing, Prada also offers the latest small Buckle in Marina Blue exotic leather. The product title refers to crocodile leather, while Prada’s material details identify American alligator. We recommend confirming the precise material with Prada before purchasing.
Prada Buckle Bag Price

| Small 22 cm exotic-leather bag | $28,000 / £20,000 / €22,000 |
The difference between versions makes it important to check both the dimensions and product name before comparing prices. Some regional prices have been matched using equivalent Prada pricing across markets where that exact version is not currently listed.
At $4,300 / £2,900 / €3,200, the newest small leather Buckle provides the least expensive entry into the collection. The larger leather bags, however, offer considerably more capacity for the additional cost.

Where to Buy the Prada Buckle Bag
The widest selection is available directly from Prada, although the available sizes and colours vary between countries. It is also available via a range of luxury retailers like MyTheresa and Farfetch.
Buying directly from Prada also gives you access to any customisation options offered for the interchangeable belt. Personalised products may be subject to different delivery and returns conditions, so these should be checked before ordering.
The Buckle can occasionally be found through established luxury resale platforms. As the belt is central to the design, make sure a pre-owned bag includes its original belt, shoulder strap and any additional accessories specified in the listing.
Is the Prada Buckle Bag Worth It?
The Prada Buckle bag is most successful as a design piece. The belt gives an otherwise minimal leather tote a recognisable identity without relying on prominent logos, while the detachable shoulder strap and divided interior make it more versatile than many structured top-handle bags.
Its main weakness is the open top. The belt may alter the shape of the bag and draw its sides in, but it does not offer the reassurance of a zip or secure flap. The full-leather construction and hardware may also make the larger versions feel heavy once filled.
There is also the price to consider. Even the smallest calfskin version costs more than many established bags from Prada and competing brands. Buyers are paying for the leather construction and distinctive belt design rather than an unusually practical closure or elaborate interior.
If you want a quiet luxury bag with an unusual detail, the Prada Buckle is one of the more interesting options in the current collection. If security, low weight or value for money matters more, there are likely to be better everyday choices.
